Welsh Office Minister meets Community Leaders in St Athan

Alun Cairns MP held a meeting for community leaders with the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Wales, Stephen Crabb MP at The Gathering Place in St Athan last week.

The informal meeting provided the opportunity for representatives from Community Councils and local Councillors from the Western Vale to discuss issues and views in their communities in relation to Cardiff Airport, the Enterprise Zone at St Athan and the MoD base. Read more →

Do you know how far away the nearest helicopter search & rescue team is based?

Earlier this week the UK government announced that a new £1.6bn contract for search and rescue helicopter services which will see St Athan become one of the new bases for a state of the art search & rescue fleet.

The Department for Transport has signed a contract with Bristow Helicopters Ltd to provide search and rescue helicopter services in the UK. Helicopters will be able to reach a larger area of the UK search and rescue region within one hour of take off from St Athan. Read more →

The Vale MP has welcomed news that a new £1.6bn contract for search and rescue helicopter services will see St Athan as one of the new bases for a state of the art search & rescue fleet.

Welcoming new staff at Cardiff Aviation

Alun Cairns MP recently visited Cardiff Aviation, the fledging company based in St Athan, to welcome new staff to the team.

The company has taken a lease on the 132,000 sq ft Twin Peaks hangar at St Athan to establish a maintenance repair and overhaul operation. The Vale MP, alongside senior executives and team at Cardiff Aviation welcomed their new Head of Base Maintenance, Colin Harrison as he takes up his responsibilities at the company. Read more →

Long-term future secured for MoD base at St Athan

Armed Forces Minister meets Community Leaders

Vale of Glamorgan MP, Alun Cairns has welcomed the news that will secure the long term future of the MoD base at St Athan, with the Royal Signals, who are to be based at the site. He said that this would give a massive boost to the local community and wider economy. The announcement will guarantee MoD funds in the area with increased spend from soldiers through to contracts for local builders for structural projects on site.
