Barry Minor Injuries Unit

July 5, 2012

The Vale MP Alun Cairns has welcomed the news that the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board has responded to local demand and are to return to the original hours of opening and provide a service across the whole day.

Mr Cairns has met regularly with senior executives of the local health board   to discuss the needs of local residents in Barry and the Vale.

Mr Cairns said:

“I’m really pleased to see that the UHB have responded to our and the community’s demands to extend the service provided at Barry Minor Injuries Unit.

“From my long discussions with senior health executives, I understand that from August the Unit will return to its original hours of opening to provide a vital service for the residents of Barry and the Vale which is great news.

“Many local residents don’t have access to transport and have difficulty in getting to the Heath hospital which was the only alternative if the Barry Minor Injuries Unit was not available to them.

“The UHB will also be trialling a pilot “Phone First” scheme which will direct and help callers to the most appropriate place e .g.  their GP, Barry Hospital or the Heath Hospital.”
