Vale Marketing Group supports its members

May 2, 2012

The Vale MP addressed the audience at the packed Vale Marketing Group Conference held recently at the Bear Hotel in Cowbridge.  The event was led by Chair of the Group, Mandy Davies of Crossways House.

The Vale Marketing Group is a not-for-profit tourism organization and was conceived in 2003 by a group of 16 accommodation providers based in the Vale of Glamorgan, recognizing the need to create a greater awareness of the Vale and all that it has to offer as an attractive tourist destination for visitors, both national and international.

Mr Cairns said:

“It was so good to see a strong turnout for this event, which really supports the aspirations we all have for the communities of the Vale, to live, work and welcome tourists to such a beautiful part of Wales.  Recent figures show that 11.2% of people living in the Vale are employed in the tourism and hospitality sectors, with many more living further afield by working in the Vale.

“I can recall meeting the group some 8 years ago.  At that time, they were focussed on marketing the Vale as a group and providing mutual support.  Now, however, the group has developed hugely and has members from all sorts of businesses linked with tourism – from retail to catering and holiday accommodation to website support.

“It was a pleasure to address the delegates at the end of the successful event, following their speed networking session which seemed to work really well too.  Members of the Vale Marketing Group and associated delegates are the backbone of the successful tourism business in the Vale.  The UK government’s recent Tourism Regulatory Task Force Report has identified more than 60 out of the 102 Government regulations affecting the hospitality sector which will now be abolished, merged or simplified

“The Vale Marketing Group plays an important role in heightening awareness and profile of the Vale throughout Wales, the UK and further afield.  I believe it’s crucial that the tourism industry receives appropriate support from public organisations and government. The VMG works hard to develop partnerships and links with a myriad of public and commercial organisations.

“With the National Eisteddfod coming to Llandow this summer, the huge event will put the Vale in the spotlight as never before and act as a shop-window for general economic and tourism investments in the Vale.”
