Llantwit Major Comprehensive ‘My Representative Day’
Llantwit Major Comprehensive School recently invited Alun Cairns MP to take part in their ‘My Representative’ day as part of their Personal and Social Education (PSE) studies.
The Vale MP was grilled by some 100 pupils from Year 8, about his role as an MP, how he became interested in politics and what does a usual work day involve when up in Westminster.
Personal and social education (PSE) includes everything that a school does to support and promote the personal and social development of its young people. It comprises learning opportunities within and beyond the classroom. Following the question and answer session hosted by history teacher Dr Alter, the pupils were to spend the rest of the day working in groups to devise their own manifesto, based on the issues that they felt were important to their community.
Mr Cairns said:
“I was delighted to accept the invitation from geography teacher, Mrs Sarah Davies to be a part of the ‘My Representative’ day at Llantwit Major Comprehensive.
“The pupils asked some really pertinent questions about the role of an MP, and about my opinions on issues that were important to them.
“I hope my contribution to the day provided them with an insight into the political system and the role of MPs, and who knows, perhaps there is a future politician amongst them!”
